I got excited about the prospect of feeling my best and looking my best when I was introduced recently to the reshaping garments and nutritional products and supplements from Ardyss International. I also got sidetracked for a moment because a few folk suggested my excitement might be motivated by ulterior motives, i.e., money. Silly me, I actually, allowed my attention to be diverted from the real issue: how I was feeling and how I was looking when I was enjoying my personal paradigm shift!

So, now, I make no apologies whatsoever! I feel better than ever and am totally committed to looking better than ever through a combination of nuturition, reshaping garments, and whatever else "I" need to do to get me there with this awesome headstart!

That said:

We are (i.e., me and mine!) all focusing on stronger, healthier bodies and you can learn more about my direction for nutrition, personal care, rehaping and even cosmetics by clicking here. My niece sent a couple of intriguing pictures of her mother along with the invitation. They were before and after pictures that genuinely made me sit up and take notice. They caused me think "hum".

Despite being primed for what we were meeting about I came loaded to the gills with my seasoned, very healthy portion of skepticism! The pictures of my sister-in-law had piqued my interest, they'd even caused my husband to comment on how impressive the transformation was, but, well, I doubted seriously I'd have more than a passing interest.

How wrong I was! Wrong because I saw a room full of bright, intelligent women who came from numerous walks of life have their lives changed in the twinkling of an eye ... literally. (Sorry for using a cliche.)

When they slipped out of the room where we all were gathered, slipped into a place where they could try on the miracle working garment that was supposed to let you drop two dress sizes in 10 minutes, and then came back into the room looking at the very least two sizes smaller they simply were not the same women!

It wasn't that suddenly their tummy was tight, their bust high, and their hips firm, it was that they had been given a brand new vision of themselves instantly and they absolutely, unequivocally loved it!

I know. I was one of them that did it!

I told a hand full of people about Body Magic immediately, but then I decided to back off a moment and see how I really, really felt about the product. So here I am, dozens of unsolicited compliments later, still feeling great about myself because I not only want to look how the garment makes me look, but because I like looking like that again so much I'm willing to invest some energy in more exercise and intelligent living to look that way without the help!

I'm vested and invested in sharing the feeling! Just thought you'd like to know!

Lote or Have

Is it love, is it hate?
Is it hate, is it love?
Is it Lote
Is it Have
What is this anguish,
this stupid repetition
of insanity?
Is it have,
is it lote,
is it hate,
is it love,
is it sick?
It ought to be.
©2005 P.T. I didn't realize that I had emotionally inhaled during that horrible time in 2001 when first her decapitated body and a few days later her severed head were found in local woods. I didn't realize that I wouldn't exhale emotionally until her murder(s) were brought to justice. I only thought that I was just a local citizen, appalled by yet another atrocity carried out against an innocent child, and that her's was just another senseless crime that I personally could do nothing about.

I didn't attend any of the prayer vigils. I didn't take stuffed animals to her makeshift memorial site. I didn't hand out flyers asking for information. But I did take the time one afternoon months after the crime to drive by the location where she was found and to say a quiet prayer. I did caution everyone I knew to make absolutely sure they didn't let their babies out of their sight -- even for a moment. And I did hurt inside out wondering what torment that precious baby might have suffered before her life was snuffed out.

That her own mother confessed to being intimately involved in her savage murder defies my ability to comprehend. Her own mother, not some sex crazed over the road trucker, not some sick tormented serial killer, not some racial hate driven maniac --her own mother. Her own mother watched as a grown man kicked her four year old baby in the head for crying and refusing to go to sleep. Watched as her four year old baby fell into unconsciousness. Did nothing while life ebbed from her baby's body for days because she was concerned about her and her man's own welfare because they were both felons? Her own mother watched her baby die then carried or at the least accompanied the man who carried her baby into the woods with a pair of hedge trimmers to cut off her baby's head and to dispose of her like garbage? The betrayal, oh my God the betrayal that tiny little heart must have felt in the last days of her life breaks my heart in two.

Something is wrong - the world had gone mad. I'm sorry y'all I'm postive the...

Lights Out!

Straight up, Straight Out!

Nudgies® Greeting Cards©

Marriages have resulted from these cards. Who really cares what I think? Heck, folk don't even care what they think, half the time they don't have the foggiest what's on their own mind. Flick, flick, click, click, have replaced all meaningful existence. And slowly, surely we are becoming sub-human. The properties that made us human are evaporating, they are becoming rudimentary, paramount among them our sensibilities, our feeling, our ability to care.

So, how long have I flick, flick, flicked, click, click, cliked this day? Questions range from what can be legitimately described as literature to whether new genres referred to as Urban or Street Fiction are tantamount to genocide. This blogger's response is that it is all relevant and subjective. Relevant to the conditions under which the questions are being asked and subjective as to who is doing the asking.

Literature has been at the seminal core of civilization since the first etching was scratched on the first cave wall. Its objective then was to convey the stories, the experiences, the fears, the joys, the warnings and the expectations of the etcher. The recipient of the message, then and now, must interpert what is presented based on their knowledge and its relevance to them. Man's inalienable right of free will, and, if you are an American, the right of the First Amendment to free speech, puts the onus of responsibility squarely on the consumer, i.e., the reader, rather than the producer, i.e., the writer, in my humble opinion. An economic reality for any writer or publisher is without readers, with very, very few exceptions, the message intended is dormant.

With that acknowledged though, it is a valid issue of concern to any culture or society when the economic spinning wheel starts to spit out barbed-wire in its name and pretend it is silk. This is where relevance takes hold, and this is where the thought that the preponderance of books that hold no viable redeeming value to the majority of the African- American reading public must be recognized solely as it is. It has nothing to do with literature, nothing to do with entertainment, and absolutely nothing to do with you or your culture. It is merely a profit center designed wholly for the purpose of increasing someone elses' bottom line.

The argument that the stories being told are in the language of, and the experiences of, the street as it unfolds day in and day out is hallow. If this is true than what ought to be written by this new pletora of young writers are non-fiction accounts of the lives they are living, books that chronicle for all the world to know what real life is under the circumstances and conditions of their reality. True-crime sells hands over fist, so why not this market, rather than one that romanticises their daily hell and insults those compelled to live it for real.

So, you be the judge. Is it literature or genocide? What would it be if the wrapper was removed and it was marketed as non-fiction? Would the profit center hold up? You do the math.

Lights on!

Behemoth

Not long ago I sought to explain to my husband that for the millions of us who happened to have been watching television on the morning of September 11, 2001 and witnessed the unfolding terrors we have been functioning in a fog. We, like victims of war, are experiencing delayed stress syndrome and it has been manifesting itself in all manner of dysfunction in our daily American lives.

Today, having been witness once again, albeit second or third or fourth hand, to the earth changing tragedy on the Asian and African coasts of the last few days, I know my own psyche has fled to a momentarily numb hiding place. Literally, in the proverbial "twinkling of an eye" we witnessed the world change! A beautiful, placid calm sea became a behemoth -- any thought of our immortality whisked away in an instant as we saw life enmass swallowed up into eternity before our eyes.

My question, if I even have one, is simple. This morning I woke up to "snowhunder!" It was snowing like crazy and thunder and lightening were accenting it. That was about 3:00 AM. When I finally got up for the morning there were about 9" of snow outside my window. What an unexpected surprise. I was told that when I was born the conditions were similiar, i.e., heavy snow fall and thunder and lightening, and I always wondered what that combination would be like. Now I know. It was really quite awesome!

I must say that the Lord does work in ways we don't understand. I traditionally prepare Thanksgiving dinner for our immediate and extended family. Sometimes the number is upwards of 40 people. This year I had actually begun to extend invitations to family members, but a series of unanticipated events made us have to pull back and (embarassingly) let family know we weren't going to be able to host dinner this year. Some urgent business time demands upset the entire apple cart and they weren't going to allow for all the time necessary to pull the event together. Everyone was very gracious and to my relief everyone had alternative plans with the exception of family that is out of the city. They have several young children (11,9, 6 and 1 1/2) and were planning the six hour drive here, but in a vehicle that is less than dependable in the best of circumstances. I have not been able to have an extended conversation with them although I let them know of the change of plans well over a week ago -- BUT regardless of the possible scrambling they may have had to do to prepare for Thanksgiving there at home it is with great relief they will not be traveling on the highways that are now covered with snow and ice all the way from their city to ours! Now I understand where those unexpected obstacles came from that offset the entire holiday! Things do happen for a reason.

Well, I hear our business telephone ringing (we have a home office now) and snow or not, those demands I mentioned earlier must be addressed. The good thing is after today I'll have nothing but time to focus on my writing! I'm in a finishing mood and that is extremely exciting and rewarding to me! Let me run!

Hope your Thanksgiving plans are working out very well! Be blessed!

Light's on!

Contemplation

Pun-Dunce

Okay, 'fession time. I'm a writer. I've attempted to enter the ten step program a number of times because of this addiction, but they wouldn't let me in. It is written all over my face, and on every possible free, markable space in my world, that I am, I will always be, a writer. They only accept those individuals into the program that they think they might be able to cure. I'm a hopeless addict.

Today I was on an out-of-control emotional seesaw! As James Brown used to said "take me to the brink, Leroy!" Well, I went to the brink today. Ran into one of those crazy making situations that was promising to be no-win, and then, when it seemed I had reached my absolute, unequivocable point-of-no return, things started to break my way! I'm still pinching myself.

Now if I might wax politic for a hot second, I heard something that really tripped me out. Let's say for the sake of argument that I am A-political. That works for this circumstance anyway. One one of the pundit programs a pun-dunce was saying something about former President Clinton being asleep at the switch for 8-years while our enemies gained strength and ultimately carried out that hedious assault on us in New York... now, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't President Clinton's attention being constantly and continuously diverted for those 8-years by "frivilous law suits" and attempted impeachment activities by the very people the pun-dunce now represents? If in fact that was the case, then who was really asleep at the switch during those 8-years? Oh, well!

Light's On!

An Illuminating Tug

I decided to share the fact I'd created this blog with a few friends and discovered they were light years ahead of me in the process. I had the pleasure of reviewing a couple of those remarkable sites and came away feeling as though I'd just tiptoed across my mother's newly mopped floor! They were sparkling and insightful, genuine and authentic, sharing as well as chronicling events that I have, in some instances, had the profound priviledge of seeing come into reality in their lives.

I might be forthcoming about personal goals, dreams, ambitions, challenges, defeats, fall downs and get ups, but then again I might be compelled to talk about hubris or fallacies, slippery slopes and disinformation. Blogging has been a low hum in the background that I've ignored until now. The hum became a heart wrenching scream that could only be silenced by my taking the steps to create this place and space in time; my time. So, I'm pulling the light chain for the first time hoping to shed some light on the theatre we all currently occupy. Once upon a time people wanted to hear what I had to say, heck some even paid to hear what I had to say, but I grew lazy and sullen, and quiet and withdrawn.
