Not long ago I sought to explain to my husband that for the millions of us who happened to have been watching television on the morning of September 11, 2001 and witnessed the unfolding terrors we have been functioning in a fog. We, like victims of war, are experiencing delayed stress syndrome and it has been manifesting itself in all manner of dysfunction in our daily American lives.
Today, having been witness once again, albeit second or third or fourth hand, to the earth changing tragedy on the Asian and African coasts of the last few days, I know my own psyche has fled to a momentarily numb hiding place. Literally, in the proverbial "twinkling of an eye" we witnessed the world change! A beautiful, placid calm sea became a behemoth -- any thought of our immortality whisked away in an instant as we saw life enmass swallowed up into eternity before our eyes.
My question, if I even have one, is simple. What is man?

Snowhunder and Thanksgiving Plans
Yeap! This morning I woke up to "snowhunder!" It was snowing like crazy and thunder and lightening were accenting it. That was about 3:00 AM. When I finally got up for the morning there were about 9" of snow outside my window. What an unexpected surprise. I was told that when I was born the conditions were similiar, i.e., heavy snow fall and thunder and lightening, and I always wondered what that combination would be like. Now I know. It was really quite awesome!
I must say that the Lord does work in ways we don't understand. I traditionally prepare Thanksgiving dinner for our immediate and extended family. Sometimes the number is upwards of 40 people. This year I had actually begun to extend invitations to family members, but a series of unanticipated events made us have to pull back and (embarassingly) let family know we weren't going to be able to host dinner this year. Some urgent business time demands upset the entire apple cart and they weren't going to allow for all the time necessary to pull the event together. Everyone was very gracious and to my relief everyone had alternative plans with the exception of family that is out of the city. They have several young children (11,9, 6 and 1 1/2) and were planning the six hour drive here, but in a vehicle that is less than dependable in the best of circumstances. I have not been able to have an extended conversation with them although I let them know of the change of plans well over a week ago -- BUT regardless of the possible scrambling they may have had to do to prepare for Thanksgiving there at home it is with great relief they will not be traveling on the highways that are now covered with snow and ice all the way from their city to ours! Now I understand where those unexpected obstacles came from that offset the entire holiday! Things do happen for a reason.
Well, I hear our business telephone ringing (we have a home office now) and snow or not, those demands I mentioned earlier must be addressed. The good thing is after today I'll have nothing but time to focus on my writing! I'm in a finishing mood and that is extremely exciting and rewarding to me! Let me run!
Hope your Thanksgiving plans are working out very well! Be blessed!

Pun-Dunce
Okay, 'fession time. I'm a writer. I've attempted to enter the ten step program a number of times because of this addiction, but they wouldn't let me in. It is written all over my face, and on every possible free, markable space in my world, that I am, I will always be, a writer. They only accept those individuals into the program that they think they might be able to cure. I'm a hopeless addict.
Today I was on an out-of-control emotional seesaw! As James Brown used to said "take me to the brink, Leroy!" Well, I went to the brink today. Ran into one of those crazy making situations that was promising to be no-win, and then, when it seemed I had reached my absolute, unequivocable point-of-no return, things started to break my way! I'm still pinching myself.
Now if I might wax politic for a hot second, I heard something that really tripped me out. Let's say for the sake of argument that I am A-political. That works for this circumstance anyway. One one of the pundit programs a pun-dunce was saying something about former President Clinton being asleep at the switch for 8-years while our enemies gained strength and ultimately carried out that hedious assault on us in New York... now, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't President Clinton's attention being constantly and continuously diverted for those 8-years by "frivilous law suits" and attempted impeachment activities by the very people the pun-dunce now represents? If in fact that was the case, then who was really asleep at the switch during those 8-years? Oh, well!

An Illuminating Tug
I decided to share the fact I'd created this blog with a few friends and discovered they were light years ahead of me in the process. I had the pleasure of reviewing a couple of those remarkable sites and came away feeling as though I'd just tiptoed across my mother's newly mopped floor! They were sparkling and insightful, genuine and authentic, sharing as well as chronicling events that I have, in some instances, had the profound priviledge of seeing come into reality in their lives.
I might be forthcoming about personal goals, dreams, ambitions, challenges, defeats, fall downs and get ups, but then again I might be compelled to talk about hubris or fallacies, slippery slopes and disinformation. We'll see.
Light's on.

First Pull
I'm surprised. Blogging has been a low hum in the background that I've ignored until now. The hum became a heart wrenching scream that could only be silenced by my taking the steps to create this place and space in time; my time. So, I'm pulling the light chain for the first time hoping to shed some light on the theatre we all currently occupy. Once upon a time people wanted to hear what I had to say, heck some even paid to hear what I had to say, but I grew lazy and sullen, and quiet and withdrawn. I won't say I'm back -- you would have to have been somewhere to be back from there, right -- rather I'll just say that I'm here.
Light's on.
Light's on.
